Gilman Fellowships

This series of annual scholarships, named for former Congressman Benjamin Gilman (R- NY), former chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, enabled two graduate students in the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences pursuing Shakespeare studies in the Department of English and Comparative Literature at Columbia University to study under the auspices of The Shakespeare Centre. Upon their return, they submitted reflection letters and weekly journals of their experiences as well as photographs of educational opportunities to which they were exposed.

The Gilman Fellowship Program provides endowment funding for graduate students who study Shakespeare, providing them with both academic year financial aid as well as summer fellowship at the Shakespeare Centre.

We gratefully acknowledge Rep. Gilman’s support and duly named this scholarship in recognition of his commitment to the arts.
